An ordinary business trip turned into an unexpected financial stroke of luck for one man. He rented a mid-range hotel room for a few days. In the evening, before going to sleep, he decided to put his things away in the bedside drawer and found a small package there that left him stunned.

Inside the package were three old gold coins. As experts later determined, the coins were minted in the early 20th century and had high collectible value. Two of them were in excellent condition, while the third turned out to be especially rare — fewer than a thousand copies of that coin had ever been minted. The total estimated value of the find exceeded ten thousand euros.
The man immediately reported the find to the hotel administration. Hotel staff checked the check-in log for the past several months. It turned out that more than thirty different guests had used the room. Who exactly had left the coins in the nightstand remained a mystery. The administration promised to help search for the possible owner but warned that the chances were very slim.
Experts in numismatics note that such finds in hotel rooms are extremely rare. “People often forget phone chargers, books, or cosmetics in hotels,” comments a specialist. “But to find a package with gold coins of this level in a nightstand — that is an exceptional stroke of luck. Most likely, the previous guest was a collector who simply left the coins behind while packing in a hurry.”
Under local laws, if the owner is not found within six months, the find becomes the property of the person who discovered it. The man stated that if the owner of the coins does not come forward, he plans to put them up for a charity auction and donate the proceeds to a children’s aid fund. “This is not my money,” he says. “But if it can no longer return to the one who owned it, let it benefit those who are in need.”
